The April meeting of the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society was held at the Syndicate in Newport, Ky. Glenn Schmidt was the speaker for the evening and gave a presentation on the biography of his grandfather Pete Schmidt.


Treasurer’s Report

Glen Elsener reported that we have a balance on hand of $7787.39.                


Current Membership

 Jan Lester reported that paid membership currently stands at 240.   



Jan Lester reported that the May issue of the newsletter will be out at the end of April.  This edition will have the essays of two of the 2019 Essay Contest winners.


Veterans Records

1.  Pam Casebolt reported that there are currently 13,624 veteran’s records and 26 Veteran’s of Valor video interviews in the society’s collection.

2.  Pam Casebolt told members that the Historical Society is in search of artifacts from the Korean War, Viet Nam War, and War on Terror if they have any items that they would like to donate.


Email and Correspondence

1.     The 2019 Ohio Genealogical Society Annual Conference will be held May 1 – 4 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio.

2.     Sons of the American Revolution are having a Genealogy Night on April 16 in Louisville Ky.  Admission is free but registration is required.

3.     The Ohio Chapter of the Palatines to America presents their 2019 German Genealogy Spring Seminar on April 13 titled “The Land They Lived On”.

4.     Campbell County Food for Thought Series – The next presentation is Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 PM at the Cold Spring Branch of the library. The title is “Big Tall White Guy in West Africa”.

Regional History Day

Richard McCormick requested that members notify him if they have any ideas on improvements to next year’s Regional History Day.


Speaking Engagements        

Ken Reis reported that he is scheduling visits for the following groups;

April 22 – Sr. Citizen Group from Ft. Thomas will tour his Cabin

April 23 – Christ Church Ft. Thomas – Talk on Newport’s 4th Street School.

July – Campbell County Home Makers

October – School Group



Gifts and Donations  

Richard McCormick reported on gifts and donations received over the last month including a History of Highland Country Club book donated by Dan Schlarmer and two painted wooden panels that were donated by Fred and Joann Warren.

 Society Publications

1. “A Day in Campbell County” Book Project

Steve Battistone reported that April 27 is the day for taking picture and that the pictures need to be uploaded to the Project web site by May 5. To date 57 people have signed up to take pictures.


2.   Camp Springs Book

Steve Battistone reported that postcards were sent to homes in the Camp Springs area notifying them of our new publication and that the books are selling very well.


Steve Battistone reported that Board Members toured the Silver Grove School, which will be closing at the end of the current school year and took pictures that will be uploaded to the Historical Society’s files.  


Steve Battistone told members that we have an opportunity for a tour of Behringer Crawford Museum at our July meeting. However, the meeting will need to be moved to Wednesday, July 10 because of the museums summer concert series. Members were in agreement with the date change.
