The August meeting was held at the Wilder City Building. President Steve Battistone welcomed members and guests and thanked the City of Wilder for the use of their facility. The speaker for the evening was Brian Griffin, who gave a presentation on the history of Griffin Industries.


Treasurer’s Report

Glen Elsener reported that we have a balance on hand of $8199.21.                   


Current Membership

Jan Lester reported that paid membership currently stands at 266.



The September edition of the newsletter will be out at the end of August.  


Veterans Records

There was no update on Veterans Records.


Email and Correspondence

1.    Thursday, August 22 from 7:00 – 8:00 at the Campbell County Library Newport Branch - Former Kentucky state librarian Wayne Onkst will discuss his book Presidential Visits to Kentucky.

2.    Thursday, August 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Ft. Thomas – Don Frey will discuss the history of Lunken Airport.

3.    Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 AM at the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Library – Karl Leitzenmayer will speak on Lafayette’s trip to our area.

Regional History Day

Richard McCormick reported that the next Regional History Day is scheduled for March 14, 2020 at the Erlanger branch of the Kenton County Library. 


Gifts and Donations  

Richard McCormick reported on gifts and donations received over the last month including;

Donor: Mary Guilfoyle: Newport High School Yearbooks, 1947, 48, 49 (duplicates)
Donor: David Wilz: Bellevue High School Yearbooks: 1971,. 1972, 1973 & 1970 (yearbook)
Donor: Mark Ledman: 5 – 8 x 10 photos of Harry Ledman, Harry Ledman US Navy dog tag & US Navy Sailor Tie.

 Society Publications

“A Day in Campbell County” Book Project

Steve Battistone reported that the committee has completed organizing the 1800 pictures into twenty-five communities and is now refining the layout of the pages. A notification was sent to all photographers who submitted their photos.

The topic at the October membership meeting will be the Wadsworth Watch Case Company. A publication on the company is currently being developed and will be available for purchase following the meeting on October 10.


Road trip to Carillion Park

Steve Battistone reported that CCH&GS is planning a bus trip to Carillon Park on September 21. Cost of the trip will be $35 per person and will include admission to the park. Those interested in joining the trip were encouraged to sign up early.

Silver Grove School Donations

School items donated to CCH&GS are currently located at the Silver Grove City building. Steve Battistone will be meeting with the mayor of Silver Grove on Wednesday, August 14 to pick up the items.

Campbell County Sr. Citizen’s Picnic

The Sr. Citizen picnic will be held on Wednesday, September 25 from 11:00 until 3:00 PM at Pendry Park. CCH&GS will have a booth at the event.

Silver Grove Reunion                         

The Silver Grove reunion event is scheduled for Saturday, September 7 this year.


NOTE: The October membership meeting has been moved to St. Bernard Church in Dayton, the meeting was originally scheduled for Wilder but needed to be move due to a scheduling conflict.
