The December 12th meeting of the Campbell County Historical and Genealogical Society was held at the Wilder City Building. President Steve Battistone welcomed members and guests to the annual holiday social. A PowerPoint presentation, showing the organizations year in review played in the background throughout the evening.


Treasurer’s Report

Glen Elsener reported that we have a balance on hand of $7583.62.                     


Current Membership

Jan Lester reported that paid membership currently stands at 288.



Jan Lester reported that the January edition of the newsletter will be out at the end of December and will contain the membership renewal form as well as an envelope for sending dues.


Email and Correspondence

1.  Jan was contacted by an individual who is planning a service for a WWI vet, Gard Willis Allen, who was killed in France and is buried in the Flag Springs Cemetery. The individual would like the society’s participation in the event that will take place in August 2021.

2.  The Ft. Thomas branch of the library will be hosting Chef Edward Lee who will be giving a live cooking demonstration along with his talk. The event takes place on       Friday, February 7, 2020 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Reservations are required.


History Day

Richard McCormick reported that the next Regional History Day is scheduled for March 14, 2020 at the Erlanger branch of the Kenton County Library. Five speakers have committed to giving presentations at the event.


Veterans Report

 Pam Casebolt reported that all forms have been filed and she will give an update on the total records in the collection at the next meeting.



Gifts and Donations  

Richard McCormick Reported on the following gifts and donations received since the last meeting, which included the following;

1.     Donor: Jack Snodgrass: old wooden stamp “Campbell Co KY Election Dry Ridge”

2.     Donor: Alan Kinstler: pictures from collection of his late father Richard Kinstler of Southgate, including school and winter scenes and note cards from Newport High School

3.     Donor: unknown: bag of old pictures, plus various post cards

4.     Donor: Nick Cleves: 4 clocks, wooden car, desk pen holder, book: stories in glass, small
“thank you” picture

5.     Donor: Jill Fessler: handmade quilt, 1940; 2 old keys from Campbell County homes; Funeral flag for Ervin Mason Loos, Korean veteran

6.     Donor: Newport Library - Newport High School yearbooks, stories & photos of 1937 flood

7.     Donor: Cheryl LeEace – Civil War Times magazines



Speaking Engagements

Jim Schroer reported that Pam Casebolt will be presenting the story of the Wadsworth Watchcase Company at the Ft. Thomas Library on February 27 at 6:00 PM.

One Day in Campbell County Book Project

Steve Battistone reported that the book is taking longer than anticipated to compile and that it will not be completed in time for Christmas as was planned.

New Board Member / New Secretary

Steve Battistone reported that Courtney Neltner Kleier has been appointed to the Board of Directors effective January 1. Steve also reported that Jim Schroer will be taking over the position of Secretary for the society.
