Dr. Morris McMullen Garrett

 

Dr. Morris Garrett was a founding member of the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society. His wife Nelle was also a life time member and supporter of the historical society.

Dr. Garrett was born 2 Jan 1919 in Booneville KY,, the son of George Washington Garrett and Lucy S Moyers. He distinguished himself as a US Marine, a physician, historian and lecturer. Dr. Garrett, of Ft Thomas, died 20 April 2001 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore near Lexington, and was buried in the Richmond Cemetery. 

He retired as a Major in the US Marine Corps Reserves and later became a noted Radiologist at St Luke Hospital in Ft Thomas for 40 years. Dr. Garrett was assistant coroner at the time of the Beverly Hills Supper Club in 1977 and served as the initial officer in charge of identifying the bodies of the 165 people who perished in the blaze.

He also served as president of the Northern Kentucky Medical Society and was team doctor for the Ft Thomas Highlands High School Bluebird football teams in the late 1960s. He was instrumental in obtaining land for the creation of Sergeant Park in the county.

He was a frequent lecturer and donated his mammoth collection of Kentucky historical books, oral histories and photographs to Northern Kentucky University.
